Last week I had the chance to facilitate the Facebook’s Anatomy research project at the Digital Methods Summerschool 2019. In this week of intensive research with a group of about 20 people, we made an effort to dissect Facebook’s front-end and back-end data gathering prompts and practices. Building on psychological dark patterns on the one hand and infrastructural cookie size on the other we tried to carefully deconstruct various mechanism behind early Facebook on-boarding processes.
